Carbon Offsets as a Business-2-Community (B2C) Based Economic Engine
LICO2e™ is an emerging public benefit corporation (in partnership with the St Croix Institute), that provides voluntary carbon market services for maximizing the leverage of “locally invested carbon offsets”.
The power of LICO2e™ is maximized through its support and service to Public/Private/NGO partnerships (both tribal and on-tribal) that allow local, regional, state, and national stakeholders the opportunity to see their carbon dollars invested to the benefit of their own local economy.
Unlike other voluntary offset opportunities in the marketplace, where dollars commonly leave the local economy, LICO2e™ is committed to keeping those dollars at home.
Applied examples are numerous. Whether it is an individual offsetting a business trip, a family offsetting a personal vacation, a local law firm offsetting it services, an NGO developing a community capital fund for solar gardens, a campus off-setting student travel abroad, a multinational corporation maximizing positive community impact, or a sovereign tribal nation developing soil, grass, and/or forest carbon offsets for the voluntary market, the focus on the aggregated power of community investment in carbon offsets at every scale is unquestionable.
LICO2e™ offers the opportunity to creatively and strategically monetize carbon to the benefit of building community resilience across the breadth and depth of local priorities. LICO2e™ is the next logical step devoted to ‘walking the talk’ around the ‘re-localization of community economics’ in energy, food, water, shelter, clothing, transportation, education, healthcare, safety/security, ‘the arts,’ business, industry, and commerce across the board.
Our work and partnerships are committed to disruptive entrepreneurship and market responses to the ‘best available science’ on climate change. A premier example is our formal partnership with the National Indian Carbon Coalition in utilization of the TICO2e℠ service mark and development of the TICO2e℠ carbon calculator and funding portal, among the numerous other collaborative tribal projects.

As such, the response from the St Croix Institute from its inception, has been a ‘Carbon Negative’ objective. The carbon needle needs to be moved backwards. Carbon Neutrality in light of the best available science, is too little, too late.
Our strategies and service are devoted to ‘getting beyond sustainability’ and moving our tribal and non-tribal partners profitably into restorative and regenerative solutions for the dynamic challenges we face, and the unprecedented voluntary carbon market opportunities they unleash.
